Warped was formed in 1995 with its origins beginning further back from when computers connected through modems and dinosaurs roamed the earth. Fossilized evidence can be found by looking at things like CryoCafe BBS, and cryo.rain.com (or !uunet!tektronix!percy!cryo)
Warped acquired DeadJournal.com in 2008, and brought Frank Precissi (SCSi) on staff to continue maintaining it.
